About Subarnashree

Subarnapur District, also called as second Varanasi situated on the bank of River Mahanadi & Tel is an administrative district of Odisha state. The town of Sonepur is the district headquarters. This district earned the name “Subarnapur” during the time of Somavamsi ruler. The district was established in 1993.
 
Subarnapur District is known for its influentially rich cultural heritage, arts and crafts. For instance, Handloom and Terracotta of Sonepur, Brass metal works and Philigri crafts of Tarbha and Binka, Stone carving of Ullunda and Paddy crafts of Dunguripali are recognized all over the state and also in country.
 
From Bhubaneswar the district is located at a distance of 275kms on the N.H. 57 or 276kms on the N.H. 55 (via Badakera-Cuttack Rd.). The nearest Railway Stations is Balangir at a distance of 50 Kms and the nearest Airport is Bhubaneswar Airport at a distance of 276 Kms.
